Game Recap

The Geneva vs. Madison boys soccer rivalry has some close connections on and off the field. Madison Head Coach Julio Gutierrez is a Geneva alumni and former assistant soccer coach at Geneva. Geneva’s head coach, Jeff Hull, lives in Madison and has coached with Gutierrez in years past. Gutierrez and his Blue Streaks have won all of the previous three games in this head to head match up. On the field, these two teams met in July, in the finals of the Ashtabula County High School Summer League. The Blue Streaks took the Championship with a 3-1 win over the Eagles. When the two teams met on Sunday, both teams came to battle. The first half was an even tilt with neither team scoring and both teams maintaining equal possession and pressure. In the second half, Eagles Senior Kevin Allen earned a penalty kick after being tripped up by a Blue Streaks defender inside the box. Allen was able to convert the penalty kick for the game’s only score of the afternoon. It was a hard fought game by both sides and will surely bring more enthusiasm to the on field rivalry! The Eagles improve their record to 7-3-3 and guarantee a .500 or better win percentage on the season. Geneva closes out CVC play on Tuesday when they take on 1st place Hawken, 4:30pm.
