Game Recap

The Geneva Eagles boys soccer team were not the only thing that invaded Jack Britt Stadium on Tuesday night. If it were not for the Eagles making team history, the midges that took over Jack Britt Stadium would be the headline of the evening. The midges were a nuisance the whole game however the swarm that descended on the playing surface directly after half time made it difficult to play the game. Players described the playing conditions to being in a fog, difficult to see the other side of the field, and nearly impossible to concentrate while in the midst of the swarm. With the additional obstacle of the conditions to overcome, the Eagles were able to make team history, earning their first CVC win since joining the league 3 season ago. Dawson Schafer scored early in the first half and Grant Mihalick finished off a through ball from Brandon Delia to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the half. Harvey battled back and netted a goal in the second half, but Eagles’ keeper Joe Carley and his defensive line were too much for the Red Raiders. The Eagles improve their overall record to 5-2-1 (CVC 1-1-1) and move into 4th place in the CVC Chagrin Division. The boys next game will be at SPIRE on September 19th against CVC opponent West Geauga (CVC 3-1-0) who currently occupy 2nd place in the conference.
